Kate Kordich College Counseling
There are thousands of colleges out there that would happily accept you, but how do you decide which ones would be an ideal fit for you? That’s where I come in.
I will help you efficiently research and target colleges, boost the impact of your application essays, and keep you (and your folks!) on track in the application process.
How it Works
1. Meet with Kate
In this free session we’ll talk about you and the kind of experiences you’re seeking.
2. Research & Prepare
I’ll direct you to inspiring colleges, coach you through your writing pieces, and strategize admissions approaches.
3. Apply to College
I’ll help you stay clear on your values and goals while you're completing applications and essays.
4. Decide
After those acceptances roll in, I’ll be a sounding board as you decide which college will be lucky enough to see you on campus next term.
About Me
I’m Kate Kordich. I’ve published essays and three books, but some of the best stories I’ve heard have been from my students.
I was an English teacher and happily created and led classes (and the English Department) at the College Preparatory School in Oakland, California. After 13 years, I was drawn to Prep’s College Counseling office. I’ve so loved my adventures helping students tell their stories and find their colleges that I’m still doing exactly that!

My method
More than a sweatshirt you’ll wear, your college will be where you’ll gain incredible experiences, build life-long friendships, and grow into your independent adulthood. Of course, you’ll be learning tons in the classroom, too!
When I think of all the essays my students have written, I imagine a library of small masterpieces. Even if this isn’t the aspect of the application you’re looking forward to, you’ll be proud of the writing you’ll submit with your applications.
If we work together, I will help you efficiently research and target colleges, exponentially boost the impact of your application essays, and keep you on track in the application process.

I was so nervous about applying to college and the whole process but you made it so much easier and less stressful!! I’m really glad that I got to work with you. Thank you again!

You are just the best!!! [Our son] is buzzing with glee and pride and all the work the two of you completed will definitely make our winter break that much sweeter! We are SO happy and grateful. And he is really going to miss seeing you – it’s been such a positive experience for him and I know he enjoys your humor and sensibility as well as your expertise.
--Parent, Class of 2024
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You were such a huge help and [our son] didn't complain at all, which is really, really incredible. (Like, totally incredible).

My approach
I believe that the best time to start working together is in your junior year. Until then, engage with your school and other communities, take classes that excite and inspire you, and enjoy high school!
If we decide to work together, you’d be one of a small number of students who'd receive my full attention. By keeping my client numbers limited, I stay accessible throughout your process.
I offer comprehensive college counseling support: college research, essay support, application intel, proofreading, and more. I can suggest other experts on financing college.
My rate is $280 an hour. The number of hours depends on the student's needs. We can discuss your needs when we chat!
I work with local and remote clients. An introductory meeting (over Zoom) is free.
